A French company specialised in electronic solutions with long service life and in severe environment is looking for an innovative braking system allowing energy recovery. The company requires partnership for technical cooperation but will consider other proposals.

Description of the request

A French company specialised in electronic solutions with long service life and in severe environment is looking for an innovative braking/retarder system allowing energy recovery.

In land motor vehicle, the retarder function can be achieved using hydraulics or electrics (Foucault currents). Electrical solution is suitable for vehicle platforms from 3 to 7 tons.

The project aims at optimising energy balance on electrical retarder system. Optimisation will be done by recovering kinetic energy on vehicle platform between a hybrid machine (8 kW - 48 V) including the windings for retarder and generator.
Tecnological barriers to overcome are :
- operating temperature > 100°C
- low speed of rotation (from 500 to 4000 rpm)
- weight < 10 kg
- volume < 6 l
The project is based on electrotechnics, but also mecatronics (power electronics of the machine) and reliability of the implemented solution (coherent with the life cycle considered)

The requested partner shoud be skilled :
- in electrothermal simulation (for hybrid machine)
- in conception of hybrid machine
The partner will be active during the following steps of the project :
- Specification
- Preliminary & detailed conceptions
- Mock-up
- Validation & tests
Preference will be given to SMEs
